Exploring The Magical Waterfalls of Pike County, PA

When you stay in Pennsylvania, there’s so much to explore. From scenic drives to biking trails, you’ll have a lot of adventures to choose from on your trip. One of our favorite ways to spend time in Hawley is exploring the waterfalls of nearby Pike County!

There are many waterfalls in Pike County due to tributaries of the Delaware River. As these river tributaries travel from their source to their mouth, they decline in elevation as they exit the Pocono Mountains. This results in several places where you can watch water cascade down the falls!

Pike County, PA, is just a stone’s throw from us here in Hawley and is home to some of the state’s most spectacular waterfalls. Join us as we explore these magical waterfalls in Pike County, PA!

Dingmans Falls

Distance from Settlers Inn: 45-minute drive

Hiking Distance: There are several trails to choose from, ranging in distance and difficulty.

Dingmans Falls is the second tallest waterfall in Pennsylvania (we’ll explore the tallest next)! You can observe two waterfalls here—Silverthread Falls and Dingman Falls.

Silverthread is aptly named. The waterfall is narrow and resembles a single glimmering silver thread emerging from the Earth. It’s a beautiful sight!

If you want to walk the entire boardwalk surrounding these falls, be prepared to get wet. In heavy spring runoff, there’s no way to get to the end of the boardwalk without getting drenched by spray. The views are well worth it, though—don’t let the water deter you!

Raymondskill Falls

Distance from Settlers Inn: 40-minute drive

Hiking Distance: .5 miles (moderate)

Visit the tallest falls in Pennsylvania when you see Raymondskill Falls! If you’ve already trekked out to Dingmans Falls, this one is super close by (we promise!).

Measuring only four feet shorter than Niagara Falls, Raymondskill Falls is a breathtaking scene of rushing water, deep woods, and primeval sandstone. When you’re hiking toward the falls, you’ll see a large base of a structure that used to be the Hotel Schanno. Built in 1892, the hotel was once a popular tourist attraction. Unfortunately, it burned in 1990, and the mound is all that remains.

Shohola Falls

Distance from Settlers Inn: 25-minute drive

Hiking Distance: .6 miles (easy)

If you’re still looking for more waterfalls in Pike County, stop by Shohola Falls. There are several hiking trails here and a few striking observation points to take in the view of the falls—it’s magnificent, if we do say so ourselves. Surrounded by a mixture of hemlocks, cliffs, mountains, and meadows, Shohola Falls is a great way to end a day of waterfall viewing in Pike County, PA.
