It’s that time of year again. The sunny skies and warmer weather mean trout season is here and it’s time to spend some quality time fishing in Lake Wallenpaupack. Before you head out on the lake, check out our list of 5 of the best tips for fishing Lake Wallenpaupack.

Lake Wallenpaupack is Pennsylvania’s 3rd largest lake.  It runs 13 miles in length and covers 52 miles of shoreline.  If you plan on towing your own boat, you will need to know the easiest place to access the lake.  Check out the access at Mangan Cove off of State Route 590.  The best part about it, it’s free!  Other access points include Caffrey, Ironwood Point, Ledgedale, and Wilsonville.  There is a fee to access the lake from these locations unless you are camping.

If you need fishing equipment, Wallenpaupack Sport Shop on Wellwood Avenue has any equipment you will need for a day outdoors.  From rods and reels to live bait and lures, you are sure to find everything you will need for fishing.

Any person that is 16 years of age and older must obtain a fishing license in the state of Pennsylvania.  Issuing agents in Hawley include The Forest Lake Club and Wallenpaupack Sport Shop.  Don’t forget: the license must be signed in ink and displayed on an outer garment while fishing.  Fishing licenses can range in price from $22.70 for a Pennsylvania resident to $52.70 for a non-Pennsylvania resident.  For more information about obtaining a fishing license, visit the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission’s website.

Throughout the season, fishing competitions are held all over the state.  This coming May, Hawley will be the sight for the Lackawanna County Bassmasters-Paupac Madness.  These tournaments are not only fun competition with payouts but also hold special tournaments that benefit the community.
