Enjoy a Day in Honesdale PA
Along with Hawley, there are three other notable towns that comprise the Lake Region of the Pocono Mountains. Hawley PA is known as the center of commerce for the Lake Region, Milford PA is where the US Department of Forestry was born, Narrowsburg NY is a destination for concerts and theatre performances, and Honesdale PA is the historic county seat of Wayne County. Honesdale PA is just nine miles west of Hawley on Route 6 and makes a great day trip from our Pocono bed and breakfast. Here’s why we think you should enjoy a day in Honesdale PA.
Architecture of Honesdale PA
Honesdale PA is dominated by Victorian-era architecture and tall church steeples. The charming design of the town is only enhanced by the natural beauty surrounding it. Irving Cliff, a 300-foot summit, towers over the town and provides a beautiful backdrop to the picturesque borough.
Honesdale PA Arts and Entertainment
Small town or not, Honesdale has great offerings for arts and entertainment with a consistent focus on the community. Check out The Cooperage Project for a variety of instructive and entertaining activities and events. The mission of this local not-for-profit is to create a deeper sense of community through performance events, learning opportunities and good times.
Honesdale PA Restaurants
There are a variety of different restaurants to enjoy in Honesdale PA. One of our favorite places for an indulgent snack is Branko’s Patisserie du Jour. This European pastry shop and deli features French pastries, fresh fruit tarts and our top pick, their signature Parisian chocolate dome. For lunch or dinner in Honesdale, we suggest Fiesta on Main: the best place to find authentic Mexican cuisine cooked fresh in the area.
History of Honesdale PA
Honesdale PA was established in a coal mining region during the 19th century. It was the starting point of the Delaware and Hudson Canal, which provided transport of coal to Kingston NY and then down the Hudson River to New York City. Visit the Wayne County Historical Society Museum to explore history exhibits ranging from spectacular Native American artifacts to a full scale replica of the Stourbridge Line: the first steam locomotive to run on rails in the United States.
