For local artists in Honesdale, there is a place called the Wayne County Arts Alliance. This alliance supports artists by giving them a venue to display their works to the public. Their commitment to bring art to the community enhances the lives of the town and develops an art friendly atmosphere for the people.
The Wayne County Arts Alliance was created in 2002. It is founded by artists with the vision to “enrich the community through the arts”. This not for profit organization runs completely by volunteers and artists and those interested in the beneficial effects of the arts. Their pledge is to be a service to the community. The Wayne County Arts Alliance offers professional, recreational and educational activities through programs for youth and adults and promotes art awareness throughout the community.
The Wayne County Arts Alliance hosts a variety of events throughout the year. Last July, the alliance held a three day event called the 12th Annual Artists Studio Tour. This event was free to the public and featured 24 artists at 17 different locations. This tour was a great opportunity for people attending to meet the local artists in their own space. This past October, the WCAA hosted their 3rd Annual Halloween Bash. This adults only event featured live music, a costume contest and a dance party. There was also an Open Studio over the holidays featuring local artisan crafts. Each weekend from November 29th through December 21st, 9 artists work was on display making it perfect for any holiday gifts.
Members of the WCAA receive a bi monthly newsletter and have the opportunity to show their work in the WCAA gallery and post work on the blog. Because the Wayne County Arts Alliance is a self-sufficient organization, monthly dues are asked of members to help cover expenses.
The Alliances office hours are Monday from 10:00am to 3:00pm, Tuesday 10:00am to 12:00pm, Wednesday from 10:00am to 3:00pm, Thursday from 10:00am to 12:00pm, Friday 10:00am to 12:00pm, Saturday by appointment only and closed on Sundays. There will be an upcoming event called The Earth Speaks. Deadline for this event is January 31st with reception held on April 18th. The Earth Speaks is a juried exhibit on the Climate Crisis. In the ArtSpcace Gallery, the work will be focused on the gravity issue in the hopes to bring awareness to this crisis.
