Lake Wallenpaupack (or “The Pack” as local anglers call it) is 5,700 acres in area and has 52 miles of shoreline. At its deepest points, the Lake measures approximately 60 feet deep and it’s around 13 miles long.

How Long Has the Lake Been There?

The lake was first formed in 1927 by the Pennsylvania Power and Light (PPL) Company. PPL built a dam on Wallenpaupack Creek and soon the valley behind filled with sparkling water and created the lake we all know and love today.

What Kinds of Fish Are There in Lake Wallenpaupack?

There are many types of fish found in Lake Wallenpaupack. According to the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission’s fisheries’ biologists, the lake’s best fishing water species are smallmouth bass, striped and hybrid striped bass, walleye, and yellow perch.

Can I Bring My Own Boat on the Lake?

Of course, you’re welcome to tow your own boat to the lake. There are many boat access points all along the shore. Mangan Cove Boat Launch is right here in Hawley and charges no launch fee!

What if I Don’t Have A Boat? Are There Rentals?

Do I Need A Fishing License to Fish on Lake Wallenpaupack?

Yes. Any person that is 16 years of age and older must obtain a fishing license in the state of Pennsylvania. Issuing agents in Hawley include The Forest Lake Club and Wallenpaupack Sport Shop.  Don’t forget: the license must be signed in ink and on your person while fishing. Fishing licenses can range in price from $27.97 for a Pennsylvania resident to $60.97 for a non-Pennsylvania resident.
