If you plan on traveling in the New Year, consider weekend getaways from New York City.  If you are a get up and go type of traveler, you can make a quick day trip to these locations.  Or if you prefer to plan, there are some great spots to plan a long and lazy weekend.  Use these travel tips to find out which weekend getaways from New York City will fit your every need.

If the ocean is calling you to come away for the weekend, consider a getaway to Montauk.  The drive is about 2 hours and 45 minutes from New York City.  Spend days lounging the sandy beaches and enjoying the many restaurants on the shore.  You can stay busy with hiking, riding bikes, and surfing or simply lounging in your chair in the sand.  Foodies will love Montauk because of the many seafood options to be found.  There is also live entertainment to be heard each evening at many spots.

Known as America’s Most Perfect Village is Cooperstown, New York.  This drive is a bit longer at 4 hours and 5 minutes so staying for the weekend would be ideal.  Visitors will enjoy touring The Baseball Hall of Fame, the Fenimore Art Museum or The Farmer’s Museum.  Spend the afternoon touring the Brewery Ommegang and sample their award-winning Belgian-style microbrews.  If the whole family is along for the ride, check out a day at Howe Caverns or Fly Creek Cider Mill and Orchard.

For a weekend rich in history, consider a getaway to Philadelphia.  At around a 1 hour and 48 minute drive, you could slip away for the day or spend the entire weekend around town.  The winter season is a great time to be in Philadelphia as the crowds are less than in the spring and summer seasons.  The town is home to Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, museums, and shopping to keep you busy.  For a unique shopping experience, stop by America’s Oldest Outdoor Market: 9th Street Italian Market.  You also can’t leave the city without trying a Philly cheesesteak.  Many spots around town claim to have the best and most authentic cheesesteak, it will be fun trying out a few options to see which one is your favorite.

Our very own Hawley, Pennsylvania is just 2 hours and 8 minutes from New York City.  The perfect weekend awaits here at The Settlers Inn or our sister property Ledges Hotel.  The Pocono Mountains has been a vacation destination for decades and it is not hard to see why.  With the beautiful mountain scenery as the background, getting out and about is a must when visiting.  There is an abundance of outdoor recreation here.  Bingham Park is right across the street from our Inn and offers a walking trail, tennis courts, and a playground.  During the warmer months, boating on Lake Wallenpaupack is perfect for soaking up the amazing views.  Take advantage of the Hawley Bike Share Program and bike around town, stop in and shop at Hawley Silk Mill or grab lunch to go at Cocoon Coffee House.  Here at The Settlers Inn, we’ve got 23 spacious and cozy guest suites for relaxing and kicking up your feet.  A weekend here in Hawley wouldn’t be complete without a delicious brunch.  We serve brunch both Saturday and Sunday starting at 11:00 am.  For additional information about what we offer or how to book a reservation, visit our website or give us a call at 570-226-2993.
