Take the Train

Leave the driving to someone else and relax and enjoy the views from the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway. A special 45-minute tour that treats passengers to a spectacular view of the area’s foliage occurs on select dates each October. This ride also features the Hometown High Bridge, a 1,000-foot-long, 169-foot-tall bridge overlooking the beautiful Little Schuylkill River Valley.

Take to the Skies

Moyer Aviation, Inc. offers local tours that are perfect for viewing the Pocono Mountains fall foliage. Select from several options including a 10-minute ride that circles the Pocono Mountains area. There is also a 25-minute ride that takes passengers over Big Pocono and Delaware Water Gap. Another tour focuses on Lake Wallenpaupack and includes views of Skytop and Buckhill Falls. Tours are available seven days a week year-round.

Ride the Trolley

Families will enjoy a relaxing ride on the Water Gap Trolley. Offering rides through November, a trolley ride through the Delaware Water Gap is a fun experience and different way to view the trees. Each car offers air conditioning and heat depending on the weather. Kick up your feet and enjoy the ride as knowledgeable guides take you on a narrated tour of the area. September and October are the busiest times during the season because of the peak in the fall foliage.

Hit the Trails

Check out Big Pocono State Park for scenic views of the fall foliage in three states including New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The park is on Camelback Mountain and has 8.5 miles of hiking trails and 3 miles of horseback riding trails. Visitors can also view the foliage by way of kayak down the Delaware River at the park. If you schedule a trip between mid-September and mid-October, you should be able to experience a wide variety of colors in the treeline. This site lets you know the best spots for viewing, the percentage of trees covered and peak color. You’ll also find the answers to frequently asked questions about “leaf peeping.”
