Where are the Pocono Mountains?

Where are the Pocono MountainsWhen you think of the Pocono Mountains, what comes to mind?  Is it the beautiful scenery or the small towns that make up this region?  You might also think of all the outdoor recreation that the Pocono Mountains have to offer.  But where are the Pocono Mountains?  Find your way to this most beautiful part of the country that encompasses Northeastern Pennsylvania.  The area is a great destination for family vacations or even a romantic getaway for two.  It’s no wonder the region has been a popular tourist destination for years.

The Pocono Mountains are actually divided into five different regions: a mountain region, a lake region, the Delaware River region, the upper Delaware River region and the Lehigh River Gorge region.  Start off your journey in the Pocono Mountains in the Lehigh River Gorge region in the town of Jim Thorpe, known as the “Gateway to the Poconos”.  The town has been named as a top 10 spot on America’s Coolest Small Towns, and it is not hard to see why.  There is tons of outdoor recreation to get into including white water rafting, mountain biking, and plenty of hiking at the state park.  Jim Thorpe has also been recognized as One of the USA’s Top 50 Places to Live and Play.  When visiting the area, you will find live entertainment, festivals throughout the year, unique shopping, and plenty of restaurants and pubs for a drink and delicious meal.

Another small town to discover in the Pocono Mountains is Milford, Pennsylvania in Pike County, also in the Delaware River region.  Milford has a very historic downtown area with many of the buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  In June, the town comes alive with the annual Milford Music Festival.  There is also the annual Black Bear Film Festival to look forward to each October.  This independent film festival offers visitors free films and lectures throughout the weekend.

Hawley, Pennsylvania is in the lake region of the Pocono Mountains along with Honesdale and Lake Ariel just to name a few.  Hawley is home to everything from outdoor activities at the lake to shops, shows, and even an award-winning spa.  After a day spent on Lake Wallenpaupack, take in a show at the Ritz Theater or enjoy dinner in the historic downtown.  Our beautiful property, The Settlers Inn, is also located right here in Hawley.  We have 23 guest rooms at our Inn, a farm to table restaurant on-site and even a charming little shop, The Potting Shed located in the garden.

If you are heading to the mountain region of the Pocono Mountains, check out the town of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.  Stroudsburg has a great downtown area to visit with antique and specialty shops, plenty of restaurants and 9 art galleries for shopping.  If you are looking to ski while visiting the mountain region, check out the town of Tannersville which is home to Camelback skiing.

Once you discover the region, we know you will return year after year.  Beautiful in every season, travelers will enjoy the snow-capped mountains in the winter, the breathtaking fall foliage in autumn and the abundance of outdoor recreation the spring and summer seasons offer.  Experience this beautiful part of the country for yourself and start planning your Pocono Mountains getaway.
