The Wildflower Music Festival: A Summer Experience

The Wildflower Music FestivalFor the past 30 years, residents of White Mills, Pennsylvania have been coming together during the summer months to experience The Wildflower Music Festival.  The festival prides itself on presenting quality music in a natural amphitheater, surrounded by majestic pines and sweet breezes.  The Wildflower Music Festival is held each year on the grounds of the Dorflinger-Suydam Wildlife Sanctuary in White Mills.  Pack up the blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy a summer experience at this year’s music festival.

The Wildflower Music Festival began back in 1983.  The Wildflower Theater was constructed and the first concert was held that August.  This event continues to draw large crowds to the area each year as it has hosted such notable performers as Ethel Ennis, Arlo Guthrie, Johnny Costa and The Charlie Byrd Trio just to name a few.  This year’s lineup has yet to be released but it is sure to wow crowds just as it does each year.

Tickets for this event are $22.00 for adults and $11.00 for student’s ages 6-18 years old.  All Saturday performances begin at 6:00pm with seating starting at 5:00pm on a first come basis.  The Sunday performance is free with no ticket necessary and begins at 4:00pm with seating beginning at 3:00pm.  Tickets can be purchased by calling 570-253-5500 or also purchased online.  In the case of inclement weather, the concerts will be held in the Wallenpaupack High School auditorium.

In years past festivals, the list of performers has been quite impressive.  Last year, crowds were entertained by The Rodney Mack Philadelphia Big Brass band playing songs of Harry James, Glenn Miller, John Phillip Sousa and Elvis Presley.  Accomplished classical violinist Max Zorin also took the stage.  He was the 1st prize winner of the Corpus Christi International Competition and holds degrees from Yale, Juilliard and Stonybrook University.  Other great performers at last year’s Wildflower Music Festival included The Hillbenders bluegrass quintet, the Pre-War Ponies playing 30’s and 40’s tunes, Richard Allen Smith and two-time nominated singer and actress Maureen McGovern.

If you need a delicious picnic to take to the concerts, check out the Mill Market’s Platters-To-Go menu.  These farm to table dishes are not only delicious but ready to go so it is quick and easy.  The Platters-To-Go menu features breakfast and brunch pastries, an assortment of sandwiches for lunch including Orchard Chicken Waldorf Salad, ham and roast chicken breast, appetizers and even full dinner meals complete with sides like creamed spinach with parmesan and crispy Carolina coleslaw.  A 48 hour notice is recommended for ordering.
