Go on an Adventure at Promised Land State Park

Promised Land State ParkWhen making plans for this summer’s vacation, an adventure at Promised Land State Park in Greentown, Pennsylvania might be just what you’re looking for.  Surrounded by Pennsylvania’s Delaware State Forest, this 3,000 acre park sits on the Pocono Plateau.  Promised Land State Park offers fishing and boating, camping and plenty of trails perfect for hiking, biking and horseback riding.

With 50 miles of trails to explore, Promised Land State Park is a great place to hike by foot, bike or by horse.  The trails are beautiful in all seasons as the plants begin to bloom in the spring, and then the leaves begin to change in the fall.  All trails are marked with blue blazes with signs labeling the name of each trail.  The park’s Bruce Lake Trail runs about 5 miles and leads to a glacial like while the Little Falls Trail passes by many, small waterfalls.  Wildlife to keep an eye out for when on the trails includes white-tailed deer, black bears, and wild turkeys.

Camping is a blast at Promised Land State Park.  Campers can choose to camp at either the Bear Wallow Cabin Colony with 12 rental cabins or at one of the 6 camping areas.  A more modern approach to camping can be found at Northwoods which offers warm showers, electricity and flushing toilets.  Deerfield Campground offers no electricity hookups and campers can use Pickeral Point Campground for their showers.  For availability or to make a reservation, click here.

Promised Land Lake has 9 miles of shoreline on 422 acres.  There are 2 sand beaches: Main Beach and Pickeral Point Beach both open late May through September.  A boat rental is across from Main Beach where boats, canoes, paddleboats and kayaks can all be rented for your enjoyment.  Fishing in Promised Land Lake can be done year round.  Largemouth and smallmouth bass can be found in addition to the brook, brown and rainbow trout of Lower Lake.

From Memorial Day through Labor Day, visitors can enjoy free admission to The Masker Museum by Pickeral Point Campground.  The Masker Museum tells the story of the Civilian Conservation Corps and offers interactive stories, displays, and artifacts.  The museum also has a native plant garden, a bird observation area and a natural history display including a mounted black bear.

Promised Land State Park is not only to be enjoyed in the warmer months.  There are plenty of activities to be enjoyed during winter.  Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing is permitted on all trails and snowmobiling can be done on designated trails.  Depending on conditions, ice fishing, and ice skating can even be enjoyed on Promised Land Lake.
