Lake Wallenpaupack fishingWhile enjoying your escape to the Pocono Mountains and reveling in all that The Settlers Inn has to offer, you may be interested in a day of fishing out on Lake Wallenpaupack. Lake Wallenpaupack (or “The Pack” as local anglers call it) is 5,700 acres in area and has 52 miles of shoreline. At its deepest points, the Lake measures approximately 60 feet deep and it’s around 13 miles long. All this water space means there are great fish to be caught! However, before you set out on your outdoor adventure, here are some details you should know about Lake Wallenpaupack fishing.

1.)  The lake was first formed in 1927 by the Pennsylvania Power and Light (PPL) Company. PPL built a dam on Wallenpaupack Creek and soon the valley behind filled with sparkling water and created the lake we all know and love today.

2.)  There are many types of fish found in Lake Wallenpaupack. According to the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission’s fisheries’ biologists, the lake’s best fishing water species are smallmouth bass, striped and hybrid striped bass, walleye, and yellow perch.

3.)  Of course, you’re welcome to tow your own boat to the lake. There are many boat access points all along the shore. Mangan Cove Boat Launch is right here in Hawley and charges no launch fee!

4.)  However, if you’re an angler in the Pocono Mountains and you don’t have a boat with you, there are some outstanding charter companies that will cater to your every need.

  • Legends Outdoors: Guide Joe Pacholec is passionate about Pennsylvania, its lakes, and its beauty. Joe is an outstanding fishing guide and mentor to all.

5.)  If you’d like to rent your own fishing equipment, contact Mark at Wallenpaupack Sports Shop right here in Hawley! He’ll be sure you have everything you need to have a fantastic day out on the water!

6.)  Fishing on Lake Wallenpaupack is perfect for both the seasoned fisherman and the novice angler. Everyone can have fun on the lake!

7.)  Ask area bait shops or your fishing guide where you can clean and prepare your catch. There is nothing better than enjoying the spoils of your efforts after a day on the lake!
