Pocono Mountains skiingReady to experience Pocono Mountains skiing this winter?  There are two wonderful family oriented places to visit on your upcoming trip to northeastern Pennsylvania.  From beginner hills to the more advanced slopes, there is a terrain for all skill levels to enjoy.  Ski Big Bear on Masthope Mountain and Elk Mountain are just 2 of the Pocono Mountains destinations to explore this winter.

Masthope Mountain in Northeast Pennsylvania is home to Ski Big Bear.  For the past 39 years, Ski Big Bear has been offering year round fun for the entire family.  In addition to the 18 trails for skiing, they also offer 500 feet of tubing chutes.  The slopes at Ski Big Bear all vary in terrain so even the most beginner skiers will find a trail that fits their skill level.  More experienced skiers and snowboarders will enjoy the vertical drop of 650 feet.  Check out the trail map for more information on beginner trails, the chairlift and fun routes to get from the top of the trails and back down.

The mountain offers many ways to save on your visit.  Not only does Ski Big Bear offer lessons for first timers, they also have affordable rentals.  Rentals are offered on a first come, first serve basis.  Skis and snowboards are available to rent.  Items can be rented for a full day or for a night session.  Prices do vary from week to weekend.  Season passes, night passes and seasonal rentals are all available to help save on costs when visiting Masthope Mountain.

Elk Mountain in the Endless Mountains near Union Dale, Pennsylvania is another top spot to experience Pocono Mountain skiing.  With two terrain parks, 27 trails and a 1,000 foot vertical, it is no wonder the slopes have been voted as Top 10 in the East in the categories of snowmaking and grooming in the Ski Magazine Readers Survey and in the Snow East Readers Survey.  For first timers, Elk Mountain offers a ski school and ski rentals.  The school is wonderful for beginners eager to learn the basic steps involved in skiing and it is also a great refresher for more advanced skiers looking to sharpen their technique.  For children, there is a program for every age.  From babysitting services for kids at least 2 years of age to half and whole day programs for kids with an experienced staff member, it is a fun time for the whole family.

When your day of skiing has come to an end, let The Settlers Inn be the place you unwind for the evening.  Set in the lake region of the Pocono Mountains, this beautiful 1920’s lodge offers 21 spacious guest suites each unique in their amenities.  From Room 206 overlooking the garden area to Room 204 with its eco-friendly organic covers and bamboo floor, there is a room for every traveler.  There is also a full service, farm-to-table restaurant on site.  Don’t let your visit to the region go by without a stay at this historic Pocono Mountains bed and breakfast.
