What is the Weather in Hawley PA?

weather-in-Hawley-PA.jpgThe Pocono Mountains are among some of the most beautiful scenery in the country.  Thanks to the changing seasons, the weather has a lot to do with how much the sights change.  Hawley, PA is in the lake region of the Pocono Mountains.  The weather in Hawley PA is defined by 4 distinct seasons.  The winters are chilly and the summers are hot.  No matter the season, there is something for everyone in all seasons here in Hawley.

Right now we are in full swing of the autumn season.  September and October months will see a high of 60’s and 70’s during the day and lows in the 40’s at night.  Starting in October when the weather turns nice and crisp, the leaves begin to change making it a great time to visit the area to see the fall foliage.  Getting into the fall spirit is easy here as there are fall festivals like Hawley Harvest Hoedown and the Black Bear Film Festival in the neighboring town of Milford.

Around the holidays in November and December, you can expect to see temperatures cool down to a high of 40’s and 30’s and lows in the 20’s.  During the winter months, it is a great time for bird sightings.  Bald eagles migrate to the area arriving in December.  If you enjoy skiing this time of year, Ski Big Bear is just 14 miles from Hawley.  Hawley is also home to the annual Hawley Winterfest.  This yearly festival includes a cookie walk, kid’s activities, shopping, pictures with Santa and much, much more.  This year’s Hawley Winterfest will take place December 11th through the 13th.

In the New Year, the temps continue to drop with January and February days seeing a high only in the 30’s and lows in the teens.  But once spring is in sight, the temperatures begin to rise.  In March and April, a light jacket is still required with highs in the 40’s and 50’s during the day and lows in the 30’s.  Once spring is in the air, the outdoor activities come alive yet again.  Trees along the hiking trails blossom with beautiful blooms.  For hiking in the area, check out the Shuman Point Natural Area with trails along Lake Wallenpaupack.  Golfers looking to get outside will enjoy golf at Woodlock Springs.  This course was named one of Golf Magazine’s Best Golf Courses in Pennsylvania.

During May and June, summer is on its way.  The highs in the 60’s and 70’s make it a great time to enjoy all the water recreation on Lake Wallenpaupack.  The summer season is full of activities around town including the 4th of July fireworks display over Lake Wallenpaupack and the annual Wally Lake Fest in August.  With highs during this time in the upper 80’s and lows in the 50’s, find your way to the lake to either boat or swim and soak it all up.
