Fun in the Sun at Palmyra Township Public Beach

Palmyra Township Public BeachFor a day of fun in the sun check out Lake Wallenpaupack’s only public beach.  Palmyra Township Public Beach opens from Memorial Day through Labor Day and is open from 11:00am to 7:00pm.  Spend the day soaking up plenty of sunshine, swimming or just relaxing along the shore.  With lifeguards on duty, this is a safe place to spend a long and hot summer day.

Palmyra Township Public Beach is located just off Route 6, across from the Sandy Motel and near the Lake Wallenpaupack Visitor’s Center.  Admission to the beach is only $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children 12 and under.  Seniors and infants can enjoy the beach for free.  Be sure to bring a picnic lunch to eat at one of the many picnic areas or bring money to use at the snack bar on site.

Swimming lessons are offered at Palmyra Beach waterfront area for beginners and even experienced swimmers.  There are baby and me classes and even an adult swimming fitness class.  Lessons are held five days a week.

Since 2009, the Pocono Lake Region Chamber of Commerce has held a sand sculpture contest to raise money for new sand to fill the beach.  Many local businesses get involved in this great fundraiser which brings in the new sand for Palmyra Township Public Beach.  This is a great activity that is fun for the whole family to come out and see the amazing sand works of art.

The Wallenpaupack Lake Trail which cuts through the back of the beach is a great place to walk and enjoy the shade of the trees on the shore.  The trail is 1.8 miles long and is a level path great for all skill levels.  It eventually connects to the Wallenpaupack Creek Trail at the Environmental Learning Center.  The trail is open until sundown so it’s a great spot to return to and watch the sunset on the beach.

Keeping the summer fun going, the annual Wally Lake Fest will be held this August 28th through the 30th.  This event is packed with activities including art exhibits, a Grand Boat Parade, Battle of the Bands, Open Market Fair and lots of events at restaurants and businesses around town.  Palmyra Township Beach is a great spot for watching the boat parade which awards 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes.  Last year’s Wally Lake Fest featured a High-Octane Beach Party right on the Palmyra beach shore.  Sponsored by Rock School, music from classic rock to rock and roll played all day.  For more information about this year’s event, click here.

After a long day spent out on the beach, return to the comforts of The Settlers Inn in Hawley, Pennsylvania to relax and unwind.  This historic hotel sits on six acres of land with plenty of places to explore the outdoor region.  Create a one of a kind package when staying at Settlers by adding on our house wine or champagne, a gift basket filled with candles and spa products or a day pass for access to use the fitness center and pool at Woodloch Springs.  We hope to have you stay with us during the upcoming summer season.  Give us a call at 570-226-2993 to check availability or to make a reservation.
